Recycling

In Castle Point your pink recycling sacks are collected fortnightly.

Put these in your pink sacks:

  • Salad trays
  • Sandwich containers
  • Ready-meal trays
  • Take away trays
  • Yoghurt pots
  • Margarine tubs
  • Vitamin pots
  • Flower pots
  • CD/DVD/cassette cases
  • Newspapers and magazines
  • Junk mail
  • Envelopes (including padded envelopes)
  • Office paper
  • Shredded paper
  • Catalogues and telephone directories
  • Wrapping paper (paper based)
  • Paper bags
  • Books (remove cover from hardback books)
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Christmas and birthday cards
  • Drinks cartons
  • Cardboard egg boxes
  • Cigarette boxes
  • Toilet roll and kitchen roll tubes

Leave these out:

Textiles

Your textiles recycling bag is collected the same day as your pink sack. Every time a textile bag is left out for collection, a replacement bag will be put through your letterbox.

Put these in your textile bag:

  • All clothing and underwear
  • Paired shoes and boots
  • Blankets, towels and bed linen

Leave these out:

  • Bric-a-brac
  • Wellington boots
  • Slippers
  • Pillows or duvets
  • Badly soiled clothing
  • Glass recycling

Glass

Please rinse glass items before putting in your yellow collection box. Glass collections are made on the same day as your pink sacks.

Put these in your yellow collection box:

  • All coloured glass bottles (beer, wine, spirits)
  • All coloured glass jars (jam, sauces, baby food)

Leave these out:

  • Flat glass and mirrors
  • Windows and windscreens
  • Drinking glasses
  • Pyrex
  • Broken glass

Food waste

Food waste is put in your small kitchen caddy. When this is full please transfer into your larger outside food waste bin. Your food waste is collected every week

Put these in your kitchen caddy:

  • Raw and cooked fruit, vegetables, meat and fish including bones
  • Dairy products and egg shells (not liquid)
  • Teabags, tea leaves and coffee grounds
  • Bread and cakes
  • Cereals
  • Plate scrapings and leftover cooked food
  • Food past its use-by date (please remove all packaging)

Leave these out:

  • Pet food
  • Liquids (milk, oil, soup)
  • Animal bedding
  • Animal waste
  • Packaging (cans, foil, glass, plastics)
  • Plastic bags
  • General refuse

Garden waste

Garden waste is collected in your green waste bags fortnightly. Free green bags are delivered once a year and extra bags can be purchased in local libraries.

Put these in your garden bags:

  • Grass cuttings
  • Leaves
  • Twigs and hedge trimmings (please bundle together with string)
  • Dead flowers
  • Weeds
  • Old garden plants and house plants
  • Logs or branches up to 7cm diameter and 1m long

Leave these out:

  • Plant pots and seed trays
  • Plastic, glass or metal
  • Soil
  • Kitchen waste including fruit and vegetable peelings
  • Pet waste

Bulky waste

Castle Point council provides a charged collection service for bulky waste collection for  unusable items of furniture and domestic appliances such as fridges and freezers.

There is a minimum charge of £25 for up to three items, each additional item is £5 (with a maximum of 10 items).

Non-recyclable household waste

All non-recyclable household waste can be disposed of in your fortnightly black bag collection. Check that rubbish can’t be recycled or composted before putting in your grey bin. Don’t forget that all food waste should go in your food bin.

Leave these out of your black bags:

  • Animal waste
  • Broken glass
