Recycling

The grey recyclables bin is grey, and flats have communal recycling bins with locked lids. Your recyclables bin is collected fortnightly.

Put these in:

Leave these out:

Compostable items

Your compostables bin is green with a yellow lid and is for garden and food waste only. This bin is collected weekly.

Put these in:

  • Raw and cooked fruit, vegetables, meat and fish including bones
  • Leftover food
  • Teabags, tea leaves and coffee grounds
  • Bread
  • Dairy products
  • Garden cuttings
  • Grass
  • Flowers
  • Leaves
  • Branches (less than 30cm diameter)

Leave these out:

  • Soil or compost
  • Dead animals
  • Pet food
  • Animal bedding
  • Treated wood
  • Animal or human faeces

Bulky waste

Rochford District Council will collect bulky waste for a fee.  All furniture by the council is taken to landfill, so please consider whether items can be reused before you book a collection.

Bulky items include:

  • Gas bottles
  • Radiators
  • Carpets and underlay
  • Electrical items (anything with a plug)

Your non-recyclables bin is grey with a purple lid and is for items that can not be recycled or composted. This bin is collected fortnightly.

  • Cling film, bubble wrap and plastic packaging
  • Black sacks
  • Chocolate, crisp and biscuit wrappers
  • Polystyrene
  • Disposable nappies
  • Incontinence pads and sanitary wear
  • Cat litter and animal faeces
  • Pet food
